Mr. Vijay Iyengar

Mr. Vijay Iyengar is the Founder and Chairman of Agropcorp International Pvt. Ltd (Singapore). He is also the Executive Vice President of the Global Pulses Confederation and Director for the Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA – an international trade association aimed at promoting international trade in agricultural commodities, spices and general produce) council headquartered in London representing the global Grains and Feeds Industry since 1971. Mr. Iyengar earned his B. Tech. degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1982 and Masters Business Administration (MBA) from Cornell University.

Mr. Iyengar founded Agrocorp International Pte. Ltd. In 1990. The company specializes in the physical trading and processing of agricultural commodities as well as hosting a growing portfolio of nutritional products including plant-based proteins and organics and specialty food ingredients. It has been a leader in the plant protein business and one of the first companies to establish a plant-protein producing facility in Canada. Food scientists in Agrocorp work to produce innovative plant-based end products – driving sustainability and healthy environment-friendly products. In agriculture, Agrocrop has been one of the earliest adopters of block-chain technology in trade driving traceability and efficiency.

Agrocorp has been supporting fine arts and music since 2003 in Singapore. It has always supported collaborations between international artists and local talents. In 2016, Agrocorp initiated the Mandolin U. Srinivas International Award for upcoming talents across performing arts in Singapore in association with the Srinivas Institute of World Music. The firm, also support a women’s charity project ‘Smile’ in Singapore and HEB-Ashram, a halfway house to rehabilitate and reintegrate Indian substance abusers into society.

Agrocorp has funded and supported ponds’ water restoration projects in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra benefiting rural communities. During Covid-19 pandemic, Agrocorp has donated concentrators and a ventilator to hospitals in Tamil Nadu. Agrocorp is one of the supporters of the NTU Centre of Excellence International Trading (CEIT) Singapore.

For over 25 years, Agrocorp International, under the leadership of Mr. Iyengar, has played a leading role in helping to feed and nourish people all over the world with agri-food supplies and solutions. The company has also been active in the plant-based protein sector with 10 processing facilities across Canada, India, Myanmar and Australia. The facility in Australia is powered by solar energy.

Mr. Iyengar is a Member of the NUS Medicine International Council. He has won the Best Supply Chain Solution in the Assets Asian awards (2019); Best fintech solution in the Adam Smith Awards Asia (2019); and Enterprise 50 awards from 1999 to 2003.

I am grateful to my batchmates, teachers’ administrators and the eco system at IIT Bombay for making me what I am – Besides academics, the sports facilities the extracurricular activities – Mood Indigo, the quizzes, the treasure hunts all of whom continuously bring back wonderful memories – This is what makes you want to contribute to making sure that the facilities and infrastructure remains world-class. Mine was the last batch of the 5-year program and must say that this phase was one of the most satisfying phases of my life.
