“It has been a great privilege and pleasure to reconnect with my classmates while working on our silver jubilee legacy project. Dormant friendships were re-ignited, and I made several new friends in the process while also attempting to help address the needs of our beloved institute.“

Project

Café 92, established with support from the Class of 1992, offers students a scenic space near the Main Building to unwind, connect, and create lasting campus memories.

Beyond academics, students often cherish the simple moments—sharing Maggi and chai with friends at their favourite campus spots. To recreate this experience for current students, the Class of 1992 contributed to the establishment of Café 92, located near the Main Building and nestled in a scenic, tree-lined setting. Today, it has become a popular hub for students to relax, connect, and create lasting memories on campus.

Project

Project BANDHU, launched by the Class of 1992, is a vital mental health initiative at IIT Bombay that provides counselling, self-help resources, and workshops to support students facing intense academic pressure and emotional challenges.

When bright minds from across the country gather on campus, they inspire each other to aim higher. Along with these aspirations, it’s equally important to create space for rest and self-care, ensuring growth remains both fulfilling and sustainable. Recognizing the need for institutional mental health support, the Class of 1992 launched Project BANDHU—a comprehensive initiative focused on student well-being. The project offers round-the-clock online counselling, a dedicated self-help website, socio-emotional workshops, and more.

Project BANDHU has emerged as a vital pillar of support, creating a safe space for students to seek help, reflect, and build resilience. Its success marks a significant step toward normalizing mental health conversations and embedding well-being into the fabric of campus life at IIT Bombay.

Project

The Class set up a travel fund to help students present their research abroad, promoting quality work, global exposure, and strengthening IIT Bombay’s international presence.

The Class set up a dedicated travel fund to support students in traveling abroad to publish and present their research at international conferences. This initiative aims to incentivize high-quality research, provide valuable global exposure, and help students build academic networks across borders. By enabling IIT Bombay students to showcase their work on international platforms, the fund enhances individual academic growth and boosts the institute’s global reputation in cutting-edge research.

Project

The Student Rural Immersion Program (RISE), anchored by CTARA, places undergraduate students in rural settings to help them understand grassroots challenges and cultivate socially conscious, solution-oriented engineers.

To effectively address rural challenges, it is essential that students are first exposed to gaining both an understanding and appreciation of the issues faced by communities in rural India.
With this objective, the Student Rural Immersion Program (RISE) was launched. Through this initiative, undergraduate students are placed in rural settings to engage directly with grassroots realities and develop a deeper sensitivity to the complexities of rural life. Anchored by the Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA), the program has garnered wide popularity and has been successful in shaping socially conscious engineers and problem-solvers.

Project

The Class of 1992 enriched student life by establishing air-conditioned study rooms in Hostels 3, 9, and 11—enhancing convenience and setting a benchmark for future hostel infrastructure.

Students had limited access to dedicated study spaces, relying primarily on departmental rooms or the central library. This often meant long commutes from their hostels, making it inconvenient during late hours or peak academic periods. With the growing student population, the existing study areas were no longer sufficient.

Recognizing this gap, the Class of 1992 funded the creation of air-conditioned study rooms in Hostels 3, 9, and 11, providing students with comfortable, accessible spaces to focus and collaborate. This initiative enhances the academic environment and sets a precedent for integrating study rooms as a standard feature in all hostels.

Project

Established in 2004, SINE is a leading academic incubator supporting impactful startups and is recognized as a Centre of Excellence by the Department of Science and Technology.

Launched in 2004, SINE (Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) is one of India’s earliest academic incubators, fostering startups that drive economic growth, deliver strategic value, and address socially relevant challenges. It supports early-stage ventures through prototyping grants, incubation services, and accelerator programs in collaboration with corporate partners.

Project

Few initiatives in IIT Bombay’s history have reflected the power of alumni collaboration quite like Project Evergreen—a landmark effort bringing together vision, generosity, and a deep commitment to the student experience. This alumni-led, alumni-built, and alumni-delivered world-class hostel complex, supported by corporates and well-wishers, provides students with modern living spaces that enhance their campus experience.

Three state-of-the-art hostels, H7, H8, and H21 (a dedicated women’s hostel), now add 848 hostel rooms with 1127 beds. Operational since July 2025, the hostels are home to students who are living, learning, debating, dreaming, and forming friendships that will last a lifetime.
