Dr. Shankar Moni

Dr. Shankar Moni is the CEO of Mood Eye Media and Technologies, Bengaluru. He leads Xyo in taking the concept of “Technology in Education” to a whole new level, combining 20 years of semiconductor technology leadership experience with a passion for excellence in education.nnDr. Moni obtained his B. Tech. in Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay in 1984 and later Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1996.nnDr. Moni has held senior management and engineering positions in several companies, including Nvidia, Microsoft, Cadence, and National Semiconductor. He founded the India Development Center of Nvidia’s Mobile Semiconductor Division. He has guided numerous strategic decisions and successfully lead several multi-million-dollar projects. His focus on execution and quality have resulted in cutting-edge technology products being brought to market.nnWith 24 US patents and numerous IEEE journal publications in his name, he has led teams doing pioneering research and developing innovative solutions to challenging industry problems.nnHis memories during his four-year stay at IIT Bombay are more associated with professors, the department, fellow students and the hostel life.nnAs the President of the IIT Bombay Alumni Association of Bengaluru, he has started many new initiatives that bring alumni together. One of them is Career Leap, an annual career-related event to help alumni boost their careers. Another is the “Painting in the Park”, a gathering of alumni and family at a social level to bring out hidden talent. He has continued the tradition of “Fresher’s Night”. More importantly, he hones organizational capability in the alumni and helps create leaders.nn 

Dr. Rajkumar Prasad SIngh

He has 46 years of professional experience of working with various organizations like Steel Authority of India, Lloyds Steel Industries Limited, as Professor at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur and Director General of Institute for Steel Development and Growth. His present assignment as Bharat Forge involves pioneering a new Center for Technology and Innovation, solving company’s problem related to process and products, developing new products and guiding PhD’s and M.Tech’s in several new technology areas.nnDr. Singh is Life Fellow of Indian Institute of Metals and Indian Institute of Non-Destructive Testing, He has been featured in Marquis Book of Who is Who in Science and Engineering and in the list of  2000 outstanding scientist of 21st century compiled by the International Biographical Center, Cambridge, UK.nnDr. Singh on his memories of the time spent in IIT Bombay, said, “IIT Bombay brought a lot of transformation within me, not only in the technical field but also in personality development, communication skills and self-confidence. Watching movies in the auditorium every Friday with friends and faculty helped to distress. Playing volleyball and kabaddi with hostel mates and hostel staff were experiences I cherish even today”. At IIT Bombay, ” I played bridge with hostel partner Mr Prasad and was runner-up in the inter-hostel bridge tournament of 1971. When all India inter-university volleyball and kabaddi tournaments were organized at IIT Bombay, we all enjoyed playing kabaddi on Sharad Poornima night”, he added.nnOther interesting fact about Dr Singh is that he has developed a high degree of expertise in homoeopathy and has cured thousands of people; free of cost.nn nnMotivation towards contribution to IITBnnI wish to give back to IIT Bombay more than what I received from the Institute, IIT Bombay has played an important role in the development of my knowledge and career. On regular basis, we storming programs at KCTI with the help of IIT Bombay faculties. I received valuable advice from faculties in the setting of our technical labs and some time selection of right experts

Ms. Rekha Koita

Ms. Rekha Koita is a Co-Founder of Koita Foundation, Founder of Pyramid Plus and annFaculty member at Mind Matters – an organisation which enables NGOs to scale and increase their impact through optimisation of business processes and implementation of technology solutions.nnMs. Koita did her Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1992 and is a recipient of the Institute Silver Medal. She obtained her M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, USA in 1994.nnAfter completing her Masters in 1994, Ms. Koita returned to India and worked for Accenture as a management consultant for 8 years. Her key focus areas at Accenture included operations, ERP design and implementation, performance/ profitability enhancement, and human resources management across various industries.nnAfter an eight years stint at Accenture, she became a corporate trainer – specialized in training senior/ mid-level corporate professionals on core consulting, problem solving and structured communication skills. She also conducts programs for start-ups, organizations in the development sector and for low income schools/ colleges.nnSince past few years, Ms. Koita is active in the social sector. Ms. Koita co-founded Koita Foundation where she works with NGOs in the areas of education, livelihoods, maternal and child health.nnMs. Koita’s active involvement with IIT Bombay began with the Silver Jubilee Reunion of her batch, as one of the leaders of the Legacy Project team. The team ensured high participation and received pledges from 170+ batch mates summing to a total contribution of INR 9.50 Cr.nnMs. Koita interacts with SINE and conducts sessions for some of their cohorts. Along with conducting training sessions for students studying entrepreneurship at the Desai Sethi Centre.nnMs. Koita has recently joined the Board of the IIT Bombay Research Park, a new initiative to drive collaboration across IIT Bombay and corporate organizations.nnMs. Koita has many memories associated with IIT Bombay. The ones which come to her mind are going for long walks around Vihar lake and Powai lake in the evenings. Also, just chilling in hostel and chatting with her wing mates for long hours discussing everything under the sun. For her, life on campus then was simple and away from all the pushes and pulls of the ‘real world’.nnMusic, traveling and food are her hobbies.nnTheir team identified key projects to sponsor based on the needs of IIT Bombay and students, and the interest areas of their batch. Mr. Aaloke Surie

Mr. Aaloke Surie is the Proprietor of SURIE POLEX – India’s largest manufacturer of grinding and polishing machines and abrasives.nnBesides a B.Tech. (Honors) degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay, Mr. Aaloke Surie holds a Diploma-Ingenieur (Master’s) degree in Machine Tool Design from the University of Aachen, Germany in 1979. During his postgraduation in RWTH, Aachen, he was the President of Bharat Majlis, an Indian student association in Aachen.nnAfter completing his postgraduation in 1979, Mr. Surie returned to India and founded SURIE POLEX in 1985. Under his leadership the company has become India’s largest and world’s third largest manufacturer of floor polishing machines and abrasives.nnHis company helped create many employment opportunities. His well-established business has contributed positively to the growth of the Gross National Product (GNP) and the delivery of goods and services to Indian citizens.nnMr. Surie shared his technical expertise and experience to build a base of distributors and customers in enhancing their knowledge on utilizing the products invented by SURIE POLEX and by doing so, thousands of industrious people were motivated to start their own business using the equipment called SURIE POLEX Built, thus making them prosperous owners and creating additional jobs for the nation.nnBy establishing a successful manufacturing business, Mr. Surie has set an example for IIT Bombay students in taking calculated risks and overcoming the obstacles that an entrepreneur faces in India. He sincerely hopes that more IIT students become self-employed and create employment opportunities in India.nnMr. Surie, on his memories of the time spent at IIT Bombay said, “Life at IIT Bombay, at least during our days (1965-1970) was a dream of sorts. Tough studies, sports, cultural and all other activities were part and parcel of our day-to-day existence here. I could not take full advantage of it all. Simply spoilt for choices”. During his stay on campus, Mr. Surie represented Hostel 8 on its track, football and hockey teams, and IIT Bombay at Inter-IIT meets. He captained the IIT Bombay contingent in his last inter-IIT meet and served as Sports Secretary at Hostel 8 and gymkhana.nnMr. Surie volunteered for Koyna school building initiative of IIT Bombay after the Koyna earthquake. He, along with two other batchmates, evolved and implemented a plan for introducing Laundromats for Hostel 8 in 2012.nnSharing other interesting facts, Mr. Surie, said, “I was called a ‘fresher’ throughout my stay at IIT! I guess because I remained ‘naive’ and helpful to all, even at times to my own detriment. This trait and the exposure to all aspects of science and engineering at IIT have played a major role in my professional and personal growth. The stress on fundamentals in the classroom lead to a rational and logical approach to all situations and problems. The understanding of the importance of fairness, sharing, integrity, continuous focus, being accountable and working hard to achieve goals during my stay at IIT have played a major role in the development of my business and personal life.”nnAs an alumnus, he was proactive in raising funds for IIT Bombay as and when required and has helped raise contributions from batch alums exceeding Rs. 30 lakhs. When a young student Suvendu was battling with Leukaemia, Mr. Surie launched a global appeal amongst batch alums to raise funds for him. His hobbies include trying out new recipes, discussing politics and economics and their effect on each other: two inexact sciences and how they affect our lives
